Events Around Falmouth 2020

Falmouth stages a wide range of exciting events throughout the year both on and off the water. We have Falmouth Spring Festival in March when the town is bedecked with spring flowers and a range of events take place around the town. On the water we have the spectacular Falmouth Classics sailing regatta. Set in the finest sailing waters in the South of England it is three days of racing featuring classic sailing craft and other traditional vessels with the added bonus of free access to the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, which takes place in the town at the same time. We also have a number of great food events including the annual Oyster Festival in October.

Spring Festival - 19th March - 29th March
The Falmouth Spring Festival is a a wonderful early season celebration of coast, community and culture. The festival brings an explosion of colour, life and activity to the town. Events include Paint the Town Yellow Day and the Spring Flower Festival together with a range of games and fitness events. We also have Science in the Pub run by leading academics from the University of Exeter to entertain and amaze you.
Fal River Festival - 22nd May - 31st May
This fantastic ten day festival is a not-for-profit community festival which encompasses over 150 events varying from music and drama, the arts and heritage to gig racing, swimming, walking and lots more. With its diverse mix of events taking place at dozens of locations around the Fal River, the festival offers something for everyone and is the perfect opportunity to engage with life on the river and discover some of its fascinating history.
Sea Shanty Festival - 12th - 14th June
Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival is one of the largest free nautical music and song festivals in Europe! Over 65 groups from all over the UK as well as from Brittany, Holland, Spain, Canada and Ireland perform their unique take on sea songs and shanties at over 20 very different venues throughout the town. From cosy pubs to professionally engineered main stages, street corners to parish churches we have them all!
Falmouth Classics - 12th - 14th June
Timed to coincide with Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, this sailing event attracts classic cruisers, racers and working boats with Bermudan, gaff and lug rigs. There are races and parades in the Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay. The 2019 event welcomed 190 boats, many from the south west, but also from Bristol, the Thames, East Coast, the Solent and Brittany.
Falmouth Week - 7th - 16th August
Dating back to a local sailing regatta held in 1837, Falmouth Week has grown into the largest sailing regatta in the south west with more than 200 yachts racing over eight days. There is also a lively programme of shoreside events taking place from the Moor to Events Square including the carnival, fireworks, air displays, daytime and evening entertainment bands/acts, children's activities and much more.
Falmouth Oyster Festival - 8th -11th Oct
Falmouth Oyster Festival celebrates the start of the oyster dredging season, the diversity and quality of Cornish Seafood and in particular, one of the last remaining traditional oyster fisheries, dredging by sail and hand punt. Daily cookery demonstrations are held during the festival by top chefs and food experts from Cornwall's hotels and restaurants, inspiring visitors to try their hand at unusual and exciting seafood combinations and indulge in the tastes of native oysters, wines, ales and local produce.
Falmouth Art Gallery - Events
Falmouth Art Gallery is family friendly and free. One of the leading art galleries in the South West, it has won or been nominated for 16 national awards. Falmouth Art Gallery runs a range of events throughout the year, including nationally recognised exhibitions and art fairs together with lectures and talks from artists and authors.
The Poly Events
Based in an iconic listed building in the heart of Falmouth The Poly is a thriving charity, promoting engagement in the arts, sciences and Cornish history through film, live events, exhibitions, lectures and workshops. The Poly runs a range of events throughout the year including Exhibitions theatre, films, live music, comedy, dance, workshops and talks.
